Industry guidelines on refrigerant containers will soon transition new bottles to a single color by January 2020. AHRI Guideline N, regarding the color of refrigerant containers, has updated the standard to a single color, regardless of the refrigerant inside. The change was first published in 2015, however, the guideline's effective date does not start until this coming January. The change was announced to prevent confusion, as more refrigerants have entered the market new refrigerant containers were assigned similar colors to existing bottles. Going forward all containers will use RAL 7044, a light green-gray color. However, product labels and container cartons can still use the assigned colors. Additionally, federal regulations still require all containers to have obvious markings to identify what refrigerant is inside. Because the guidelines are not required, users should identify the refrigerant by the label, instead of the container color. Any bottles in inventory with the old color scheme can still be sold to customers.
